Big City by zikrostag Big City by zikrostag
Full rez 5400 x 6000px | 33hrs | Wacom tablet, photoshop CS

Don't think I'll do images this large again, the saving/loading process + the bursh lage was terrible, ate time, and I dont think I gained much.

I'm not sure if this is the final image, suggestions and critique are welcome. I'm thinking it needs a ship, or somethign else prominant on the right.

I feel kinda small looking at Big City by ~zikrostag, but in a good way. I love how expansive feeling this is while still holding a lot of details throughout. The sun on the horizon is awesome the way it highlights the clouds. ( Suggested by cosmicbound and Featured by Aeires )

i think it looks fine.
even if you could easily make a more peacefull extension on the right...
do you know Jean DElville? do you know John Martin?
we are working on a site to promote classical architecture and antimodernism.
would n't you like to be apart of protest against modern architecture and tear out of the safe haven this virtual reality where all is banished by frauduleus businessman?
we should make a stand!

The formation of the cloud looks as if a hand is reaching out to the city.

GAH, the keyboard, its killing meh!

This is facinating! I'm a big fan of science-fiction, and I could toatally see this as some sort'a scene in a sci-fi movie!
Just as a suggestion, instead of a cloudy background a cliché background with plants and stuff could have lookes really good as well ! Takes you chose the right contrasts and colours, but I dont think you'd mess that up, takes how perfectly well done this image is!

thumbs up, and Fav'ed !

A stunning sky. I like this very much.

man this is so cool!! i love it!!
ArtbyJOgle Featured By Owner Dec 6, 2006
nicely done....i think it works on its own, though something in the sky to the right may work. unless you want it to be your focal point i'd keep the object small.....oh and save as a different image in case it doesnt work and ruins the composition.

Beautiful. I love the clouds, and love the lighting on the buildings. I'm sure you received a thousand suggestions for this piece already, but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. :D Maybe putting a bird or two into the sky would help fill it out more. The birds could be mechanical,.... they don't have to be flesh and blood. They could also be modeled after the flying dinosaurs,.... or something of that nature. Hope that helps. If you're like me, you'll just want to leave it as is. :D

This pic is Great! I really love the lighting from the sunrise/set(?) but you did an amazing job with the clouds also! There is definitely a sense of movement as well as tranquility in the city because of the clouds :D Great job!

Awesome... gives a good feeling.. Reminds abit an old game - "Beneath a Steel Sky"...
oh, its mindblowing...

BTW: I don't know how good a ship would look, but it looks like the early morning and the city just wakens for a new day......
Deadpassion Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
personally i think the right looks perfect as is. Im not sure if this was intentional, but i see a hand and claws reaching for the talest part of the city. Almost as if to say something in regards of too big, too much money, too much power. I dont know. Anyways, very nicely done. I like it.
AmourAiguise Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
I think it looks fantastic as is.. adding anything else may be too much..

Its lovely. Nothing else quite says it.
moirailah Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
oh wow, totally love it...I think if you added a ship on the stream though, it might make it too crowded. But that's just my thoughts on the matter. Beautiful nonetheless!!
nekoheehee Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
wow. even though it took so long and you say you didnt get so much from making this i would say sharing it with other people is a thing ya always gain :D but really i cant imagin doing somehting this big as far as lag and stuff like that. its really amazing.

this is really awesome! i do think if the tall tower on the left was a little sharper and had more detail then itd really pop out.

hpola Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
some of the building get a little fuzzy at times( especially on the tallest tower), but I think you might of shrank the picture But I LOVE the clouds, for me it's taken on the resemblence of a painting

I do agree with you in a little emptyness (? that doesn't look right) but for the most part I think think you should leave it the way it is.
zikrostag Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I agree the building windows got fuzzy.. But that's just because of my own laziness. That was the last part of the image I had to finish, I just wanted to move on to something else.. I guess that's because I spent to much time on details that get lost in the distance.
warren-wol Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
I SO LOVE THIS PICTURE!!! don't change a thing. i think the clouds are the prominant feature on the right. i think it's quit metiphorical. even if you weren't intending anything metiphorical, it will give those so inclided an opportunity to waste their time. (always good fun)
i loved the way you mixed eras of architecture. old building mixed with futuristic ones. it makes it believable.
the only thing i can think of that might work better is to maybe enhance some of the sun rays a little in the forground. it seems a little dark and i would really like being able to see some more of the detail in your buildings.
zikrostag Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I actually tried lightning it up and adding sun rays, brighter glow, but it just seemed so cliche with the sun rays. Because the image is so otherworldly I wanted to keep it grounded in a bit of reality by leaving out the standard sunset rays.
Raging-Norse-Moogle Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
Wow, this is great! Although... I disagree about putting a ship on the right. The amount of detail in the clouds is enough to keep it from being boring, and by manner of contrast the angular reds of the city and soft blue of the clouds is balanced enough.

However, I think you should lighten the picture towards the lower left. While if you look closely you can see that there is still detail at the bottom of the picture, overall it looks very flat. By adding light to the bottom of the picture, specifically the lower left around the tower, possibly by adding reflections to the windows like you did on the lower right, would add depth to the picture, and balance out the lack of detail in that corner. Although... that might detract from the "earthy" look the buildings there have, which you may wantto preserve.
Raging-Norse-Moogle Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2006
PS, I wanted to stress that there doesn't need to be anything "extra" in the clouds. It seems a lot of people support that, but I don't. The balance works perfectly as it is.
